7 signs your business website needs a redesign

· 5 min read

Your website is often the first impression a customer gets of your business. If it's working, it quietly wins you enquiries every week. If it's not, it sends people straight to your competitors — and you may never know. Here are seven signs it's time for a redesign.

1. It looks bad on a phone

More than half of UK web traffic is mobile. If visitors have to pinch and zoom, or buttons are too small to tap, most will simply leave. A modern site is designed for the phone first, then scaled up to desktop.

2. It takes more than three seconds to load

Slow sites lose visitors and rank lower on Google. Common culprits are oversized images, bloated themes, and cheap hosting. A well-built site should feel instant.

3. You're embarrassed to share the link

This one is simple: if you hesitate before putting your website on a business card or quote, it's costing you trust — and trust is what wins work.

4. You can't update it yourself

Prices change, teams change, services change. If every small edit means calling a developer (or worse, it never gets done), a site with a simple content management system pays for itself quickly.

5. It doesn't show up on Google

If searching your own trade plus your town doesn't find you, you're invisible to the people actively looking for what you do. Modern sites are built with SEO fundamentals from day one.

6. There's no clear next step

Every page should make it obvious what to do next — call, book, request a quote. If your site just describes your business and stops, visitors read and leave.

7. It doesn't reflect your business today

Businesses evolve. If your site still shows old services, old branding, or a copyright date from years ago, customers wonder what else is out of date.

What to do about it

A redesign doesn't have to mean starting from scratch or spending a fortune. Often the structure and content can be kept while the design, speed, and calls-to-action are rebuilt around what actually converts. If two or more of these signs sound familiar, it's worth a conversation — we'll tell you honestly whether you need a refresh or a rebuild.
